He was born on the farm of mother’s sister Adeline. His parents moved back from Washington state where his father was earning money to buy a farm. They moved to the farm right after Herman’s birth.

Herman C. Selk, 93, of New Holstein, died on Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at the Calumet Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein. He was born April 7, 1910, in Greenbush, the son of the late William and Mary Hoerth Selk. On May 4, 1937, he married Margaret Keuler in Chilton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2003. Herman was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and served on the New Holstein Fire Department for 26 years. He was the parade chairman for many years. Very active in Boy Scouts for over 50 years, Herman received a 50-year pin and a Silver Beaver Award, St. George Emblem. He was a crossing guard for the New Holstein School System for many years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Catholic Knights and also served as president of the Holy Rosary Cemetery Association Board. Herman was also a Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Survivors include seven sons, three daughters, 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, one sister and two sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one infant daughter, Mary. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. The Rev. Frank Weber will be officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, in New Holstein, on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Friday morning from 9-10 a.m., when brief family rites will be held at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the New Holstein Boy Scouts or the New Holstein Volunteer Fire Department.

Margaret M. Selk, age 88, of 1618 Jordan St. New Holstein, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein. She was born Dec. 11, 1914,in Chilton, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Meyers Keuler. On May 4, 1937, she married Herman Selk in Chilton. She was a crossing guard for the New Holstein School System for 30 years. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and the Christian Mothers. She was active in the church for many years making quilts for raffles. She also was involved in the scouts as an assistant den mother.
Survivors include her husband, Herman of New Holstein; . . . . and one sister, [living] of Chilton. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Mary; two sisters and eight brothers. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. The Rev. Frank Weber will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein on Sunday, Feb 23 from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of brief family rites at 10 a.m. at the Sippel Funeral Home. The Christian Women will recite the Rosary at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established for the Alzheimer’s Association. The Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein is assisting the family.

In Loving Memory of David Rukashaza
David Rukashaza, 65, went to rest in the Lord’s presence on Monday, May 28, 2007. He will be remembered by all the people he counseled and supported in reaching their goals. His funeral was held at the Free Methodist Church, Platteville, on June 2, 2007. The celebrants were Pastor Steve Borwick of Platteville, Pastor John Gakwaya of Dayton, Ohio, and Pastor Samuel Nsengiyumva of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
David was born January 12, 1942 in Byumba, Rwanda, the son of the late Samuel Bazirushaka and Helisi Ntiryica. After teaching in Rwanda, he received a scholarship to study in the United States. He graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in November 1968 as an electrical engineer. David and [Living] were joined in marriage on January 11, 1969. They returned to Rwanda that year and for 25 years he worked for and helped develop the growth of the national utilities company. David has encouraged hundreds of young people to continue their education and expand their dreams.
When war broke out in Rwanda in 1994, David assured that his family left safely, but stayed behind to take care of and help more than 70 friends in need. After he came to be with his family in Platteville, Wisconsin, he continued to work hard at any job and was able to purchase a home and make sure his family was established and their futures were secured. Despite health difficulties, he has continued to work hard, garden, laugh and encourage people to do the right things. He never complained and was cheerful to everyone around him.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Rosa, his brother Simon and his sister Mari. He is survived by . . . . A memorial fund has been established for him with the National Transplant Assistance Fund and with the University of Chicago Liver Research Fund.

With love and deep sorrow we announce the untimely passing of James Leo Selk. Jim to most, Woody to his co-workers at BDL, Jimmer to those who loved him dearly, he died the way he had lived, peacefully and with dignity. Born and raised in New Holstein, Wisconsin, Jim moved to Victoria at the height of the Vietnam War and truly found his home. He joined the Brewery, Winery and Distillery Workers Local 300 early on and worked as a member of the union in a variety of jobs until his death, As well as being a committed unionist, Jim was also dedicated to community, serving as president of the Victoria Folk Music Society for over twenty years. Although he was a gifted musician himself, he rarely played outside the comfort of his own home, preferring instead to support the performance of others. Another of Jim’s passions was photography, especially in nature, an art he had pursued beginning in his youth, and he also became very adept with computer technology. A dedicated Mac man, he shared generously of his skills with those less knowledgeable, but was always admonishing us to read the manual! Over the years he had also grown to be a gourmet cook, treating family and friends to many delicious meals, on special occasions or just because. Jim leaves to mourn his passing a world of friends, a devoted family, and his beloved, [living]. A celebration of his life will be held 4 8pm on Labour Day, September 7, at Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue. Flowers and cards are gratefully declined. If you wish, please make a donation in Jim’s memory to Our Place Society or to a cause important to you.

He was born July 5, 1949 in Sheboygan, WI, the sixth child of Herman and Margaret Selk. .... He is survived by ....... He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary. We are grateful to Canada Health, the Canadian public health service that provided sensitive and complete care during Jim's brief illness.

Janet M. Selk, age 50, of 1255 Castle Ave., passed away under the care of hospice and with her family beside her on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Nicholas Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Janet was born on March 9, 1959 in Fond du Lac, a daughter of the late Marvin and Minerva (Kraus) Birschbach. She attended schools in Fond du Lac graduating from Goodrich High School. On October 12, 1985 she was united in marriage to [Living] Selk in Fond du Lac. Janet was an educational assistant at Wilson Elementary School in Sheboygan. She enjoyed working with and helping children. Janet was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. Family was important to her and she was always there to support and cheer her children on at their athletic events. Always able to unselfishly give of herself to family and friends was one of her strongest attributes. Janet was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Janet is survived by her husband, her three children, her sister, and her two brothers. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Birschbach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M., Firday, July 24 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Glenn Powers as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Novak-Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., on Thursday evening, July 23 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at the church, 1305 Humboldt Ave., on Friday morning, July 24 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. A memorial fund has been established in Janet's name. Edward Anton Selk, age 84, of 403 Jefferson Stl, Sheboygan Falls, died at Aurora Memorial Medical Center on Wednesday, April 6, 2005. Edward was born in the Township of Forest in Fond du Lac County, on Oct. 9, 1920, a son of the late William and Mary (Hoerth) Selk. He attended Elder Grove School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On July 3, 1948, he married the former [Living] at St. Fredolin’s Catholic Church in Glenbeula. Ed had been employed at Stern’s Tannery and was a bus driver for Heidenreiter Bus Co. He also had been employed at Borden Foods in Plymouth, retiring in 1985. Over the years, Ed helped his sons with delivering materials for their respective businesses. He enjoyed sports, bowling, camping vacations, traveling, making stained glass items and loved to dance. He was a member of VFW Post #10383 and American legion Post #0149. Ed was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Sheboygan Falls. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, his two sons, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister and a brother. He was preceded in death by four brothers. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Edward on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Eugene Neumann as celebrant. Ed’s remains will be buried in Greenbush. Friends may call at the church, 319 Giddings Ave., Sheboygan Falls, on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of the Mass at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Edward’s name.
